Recipes with natural ingredients that help relieve cough and reduce phlegm

The power of flowers, fruits & vegetables

As autumn approaches with its dry weather, you might find yourself experiencing discomfort and dryness in your nasopharynx. Thankfully, there's a delightful remedy rooted in the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine: indulging in juicy, succulent pears. Across the annals of ancient medicine, pears have been celebrated for their remarkable healing properties. They possess the remarkable ability to soothe irritation, hydrate the respiratory system, and quell internal heat. Sipping on a steaming cup of pear-infused water as the leaves begin to fall can be a soothing balm for your lungs. What's more, this elixir is a marvel of simplicity, requiring just two natural ingredients. Its inherent sweetness makes it particularly appealing to families with little ones who may be grappling with dry coughs during this season.

2 Ripe Pears

We recommend using juicy pears, such as yellow-skinned pears: Asian Pears, and Sand Pears. However, if there is no way to buy yellow-skinned pears, many green-skinned pears bought in ordinary supermarkets are also a good choice.

4 Cups of Water

The amount of water can be adjusted according to the actual pears used

Some Rock Sugar

You can buy many different kinds of rock sugar in supermarkets. Some are darker in color, like yellow rock sugar, and some are cube-shaped white rock sugar. Both kinds of rock sugar can be used.

Start by giving your pears a thorough rinse in a gentle bath of saltwater. Even though the pears may be quite fresh, peeling off the skin is a prudent step to steer clear of any lingering pesticides. Once cleansed, proceed to slice the pears into bite-sized chunks, setting them aside for the next step.

Place these pear chunks into a pot and pour in an ample amount of water, ensuring the pears are fully submerged. Crank up the heat to high and patiently wait for the water to reach a rolling boil.

When it's boiling vigorously over high heat, it's time to add a little sweetness. Add an appropriate amount of rock sugar to achieve the desired sweetness.

Once adding the rock sugar, slowly turn down the heat and let the pears cook for about 30 minutes. In this way, the sweetness of the rock sugar will penetrate deeper into the pears, making them taste more moist and sweet. The stewing time needs to be longer so that all the nutrients in the pears can be stewed, which can moisten the lungs and relieve coughs. The effect of reducing phlegm is better!

After 30 minutes, the pear turns almost transparent and is ready to eat. Serve the mixture warm. You can enjoy it as a soothing drink throughout the day, especially when you have a dry or irritated throat.

During the Fall- Winter months, dry weather takes its toll, and children and the elderly, who often have weaker immune systems, can find themselves battling colds and coughs that seem to linger longer. While medication can provide relief from the cold symptoms, Coughs, especially persistent nighttime coughs in children, can prove quite vexing for both the young ones and the adults caring for them. In such moments of discomfort, consider turning to this delectable and nourishing dessert as a soothing remedy.

This pear water not only helps relieve coughs but also moistens the lungs and provides relief from dryness in the nasopharynx. It's a delightful and natural remedy that's safe for both adults and children.
